That Strange Honking Sound

A reverse sneeze can sound scary, but it is usually harmless. Your dog may stiffen up, stretch their 🪿 neck, and make a loud honking or snorting sound. This happens when the soft palate spasms and your dog rapidly pulls air in.

You can help stop it. Gently place your hand over your dog's nostrils for a moment and massage the throat. This encourages a swallow and often ends the episode fast.

See your vet if episodes last longer than a minute ⏰ or become frequent.

Take part in the Max’s Mutt Parade, a fun morning supporting the Grow Your ❤️ Heart toy and supply drive for the Humane Society.
