Wipe, Don’t Hose: Toad First Aid
If your dog licks or bites a cane (Bufo) toad, contact an emergency vet immediately. If your dog is alert and you can safely handle the mouth, gently wipe the gums, tongue, and inner cheeks with a damp cloth. Avoid hosing the mouth, which can send water into the lungs. Drooling and bright-red gums can signal poisoning.
For seizures or collapse, skip mouth cleaning and head straight to the emergency vet.
